The week started off strong and then spectacularly crashed!
On Monday we were still in Chicago. Sam and I took our morning run along Lakefront Trail on Lake Michigan. It was cold and windy, but the sun was shining. The trail is beautiful. There are sandy beaches, crashing waves, and beautiful skyscrapers. And, it was flat! It was definitely a great way to start a morning!
We did a lot of walking on Tuesday. We went to the Shedd Aquarium, then walked to the Buckingham Fountain, Millenium Park to see "The Bean," lunch, and back to our hotel.
On Wednesday I woke up with a little tickle in my throat and post-nasal drip. We flew home just after lunch, and I squeezed in a run to Kennesaw Mountain and back before we picked up the dogs. Thursday morning I had a low fever, but tested negative for Covid. Friday I had a high fever and eventually tested positive. So I didn’t get to run my 5.5 miles on Friday or my 10.5 miles on Saturday.
I’ll catch up eventually, but this isn’t exactly how I anticipated my first week off of work going. This might be week 10 of training, but it’s week 1 of an extended sabbatical from my job. I knew months ago that balancing my full-time-and-then-some job and running 5 or more miles would be difficult. Something just wouldn’t get done – most likely my training. So I’m beyond thankful to have a supportive job and team that has allowed me to take leave through the middle of January to focus on training, recovering, and fundraising. I hate being sick and not being able to do any of it right now though. But, better now than when I was working and trying to finish my transition plan – or in December or January… It stinks, but it could be worse. Here’s hoping next week I get the train back on the tracks!
Week 10: Run 10.1 miles + Walk 3.24 miles = 13.34 total miles
Cumulative: Run 151.44 miles + Walk 15.82 miles = 167.26 cumulative miles
